This study presents cost estimating practice by construction estimators for preparing bidding construction projects ini Indonesia. Respondents of the study are the estimators working in various construction firms. It aims a! exploring needs of information and main problem encountered by the practitioners. Using structured questionnaire supported by interview. the study has successfully obtained sixty three respondents working on various construction sites in Indonesia at the period of April to June 199 Results indicate that cost of material, tender document, labour cost, availability skilled labour, and construction specification are information needed for preparing an estimating in bidding construction job. Fierce competition, inadequate of contract duration, incomplete of drawing and spec ijication, increasing price of material, inadequate of duration for construction are problems in estimating. The result of this study is compared to that from Saudi Arabia.
