Poverty and economic disparity is one of controversial issues, which recently broadly discussed in several national and regional newspapers. The issue even is connected with several riot which happened in some areas in Indonesia. This paper is going to analyse about the challenging issue. Is that true poverty and economic disparity flourished in Indonesia? What factors cause the phenomena? Could IDT program alleviate the economic disparity and poverty significantly? This paper will deeply review the disparity between what people perceives about the economic disparity and statistical data. Backgrounds of statistical measurement which is used to support the issue is going to be outlined. Finally, discussion about implementation of IDT program in Gunungkidul, one of the districts in Yogyakarta Province will follows.
