Appraisal performance system is one of the management tool to evaluate productivity for both technical and clerical workers in most organisation. Practically, the sistem can be applied either manually or computerised. This paper explains the development a prototype performance appraisal system for clerical workers using artificial intelligent technology. Methodology for developing the system including both software and hardware selection is explained. Knowledge acquisition, knowledge representation, and programming of the system are also discussed. The prototype is developed using an expert system shell called EXSYS. To explore relative weights of criteria for developing the system, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is adopted.
