Isi artikelLanguage is used to exchange information and to communicate feelings, such as guilt, fear, anger, or happiness, including good memories, either they are truthful or deceiving. The aim of this research is to find the linguistic based cues that indicate speakers of Indonesian telling deceptive stories. Method used in this research was analysis of interview of ten respondents. Each respondents was asked to tell a truthful story and a deceptive one. These two stories became data of this present research. Data obtained from this source was analyzed by using a quantitative method: the mean and standard deviation from the linguistic cues found in the stories.. The results indicated that some cues were found significantly different in two stories. The cues were word quantity, modifier quantity, sentence quantity, group reference, objectification, and passive voice. These linguistic based cues belong to category of quantity, specificity, and non-immediacy, making these categories to be the most obvious discrimination in truthful and deceptive information.
