Isi artikelIndonesian Government has established that English at formal education—since elementary school until higher education—is as a foreign language. This research aims to discover data and facts of difficulties met by Indonesian students from the sociolinguistics point of view in learning English. This research uses qualitative method. The Students of Semester 1 State Polytechnic of Jakarta become the respondents. Samples are students from Business Administration Program Study, from Accounting Program Study, and from Financial and Banking Program Study. The results show that Indonesian students indicate interference from their first language or their mother tongue when they use English orally and written. The facts finding of interference are in the forms of the difficulties in pronouncing English vocabulary well, constructing sentences correctly and well, choosing vocabulary to deliver meaning or sense precisely appropriate with the event and context of communication.
