As Kendall (p. 604 in Holmes 2003) notes, following Ochs (1992) that women and men do not generally choose linguistic options for the purpose of creating masculine or feminine identities. Alternately, they would also draw upon gendered linguistic strategies to perform pragmatic and interactional functions of language and, thus, constitute roles in a gendered way. She also argued that it is the manner in which people constitute their identities when acting within a social role that is linked with gender - that is, being a "good mother," being a "good manager." This paper aims to describe what language strategies to perform by men when they are talking about subject, which linked with female, such as breastfeeding. In this paper, we also comparing the language strategies use men and women when they are talking about the same subject. The data we collected from the close whatsapp group, called ID Ayah ASI and ID Ibu ASI. These groups were specially created to engage breastfeeding movement in Indonesia so that people could share some knowledge about breastfeeding and other things related with baby and child under 2 years old. We collected chat archive from these two close groups and we classify the words using AntConc software. We are focusing on comparative study on the lexical choices and the pragmatics by men and women member in the group. From the on going analysis, we figure out that men use different kind of nouns when they mention each other, such as “om”, “gan”, and “ane”. Meanwhile, women used some words linked to kinship term, such as “bunda”, “mom”, “bun”, and “mami”. From the pragmatic point of view, we found out that women are more blunt when they talked about breastfeeding issues. They use words, such as “tete”, “puting”, “payudara”, etc. On the other hand, men use more vague words to make less direct strategies when they talked about breastfeeding among men. They tend to choose words, such as “susu”, “ujung susu”, or “payudara”.
