Isi artikelThis paper is mainly based on the theory of Speech Act by Austin ( 1962) in terms of locutionary, illocutionary and perlocutionary. In this paper, the objects of the study are some declarative utterance by Renee, the main character of I Feel Pretty. The film was choosen because of the precious message behind it and it is worth to be observe for our daily interaction and knowing the importance of confidence.Some choosen utterances create failure or misunderstanding through the conversation. This paper wants to use the theory of Speech Act to analyse people intention and what react should be as the response. The observation is conducted in the subtitle of the movie I Feel Pretty especially in Renee’s declarative utterance. The linguistic analysis will be elaborated and ended in one conclusion as Renee’s characteristic that implicitly shown by her utterances. The result shows that the influence of speech act would reflect her characteristic and her surroundings way of thinking.
