A study on the periphytic diatom on artificial substrate. in the form of glass plates (15x5xO.5 cm3), along the course of the Cimahi River was conducted from September to November 1990. The glass plates were exposed for one month at four different stations along the river. Tihe result of chemical analyses of several environmental factor showed that the water quality of Cimahi River toward the downstream tend to decrease, due to organic polutans. The species richness and indices of diversity (H') of the periphytic diatoms toward the mouth of Cimahi River tend to increase. Whereas the total of individual diatoms at each station tend to decrease. In upstream area Achnanthes lanceolata and Cocconeis placentula are rnore abundant, however, in the downstream area Nitzschia paleo is mere abundant.
