Optic neuropathies are charecterized by specific patterns of damage to the ganglion cells and retinal nerve fiber layer. The reproducibility of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) has allowed for objective measurement and tracking of these patterns of damage. This chapter reviews major types of optic neuropathies including glaucoma, optic neuritis, disc edema, anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, disc drusen, diabetic papillitis, and Lyme papillitis.
