In this paper we argue that travelogues can be used in teacher training to show how representations of other countries are formed, Travelogues have been written for many centuries, and stilI influence the way nations perceive each other in the contemporalY world. By analysing travelogues, in terms of genres, periods and situations, we are able to offer typologies of travellers and travel-writers themselves, which bring out the manner in which they perceive and discover the other, which invite the reader to reflection, and provide a basis for training teachers to incorporate these issues into their teaching.
