| Increasing interest is being directed toward demonstrating the cross-cultural generalizability of the Five-Factor Model of Personality. This study Outlines the: development of an Indonesian version of the Revised NEO Personality Inventory. The Indonesian translation of the Revised NEO Personality Inventory was also examined to assess its assets its equivalence to the original English version. Two Indonesian samples were employed: college students (N=341) responding anonymously and breast cancer patients (N=106) responding as part of a more encompassing study. The internal reliability for the different domains of personality for the two Indonesian samples was relatively similar to the US normative group, but several of the Revised NEO Personality Inventory facets were found to slightly differ. When procrustes rotation was done, the factor structure for the Indonesian version of the Revised NEO Personality Inventory showed high congruence coefficients at the domain level with the exception of the Openness in breast cancer sample Moreover, the two Indonesia samples were found to have relatively low scores on Extraversion domain, low scores on the facet of values, and competence, and an high average to high score on deliberation, when compared to US normative groups. |
