Isi artikelTechnological development has encouraged mankind to invent several equipments that can help people in their daily activities and thus decrease the dependency of human intervention. One of the technological development product is the invention of the vending machine. By inserting a certain amount of money, one can choose and buy selected items provided by the machine, This machne must have the capability to recognize the nominal value of banknotes to differentiate between legal and counterfeits banknotes. The hardware of the banknotes recognize system consist of a computer, ultraviolet and neon lamps, and a digital camera. The ultraviolet lamp will cause the invisible ink embedded in the banknotes to glow and the image is captured by the digital camera. The digital images in pixels are converted into arrats of matrices, then processed by artificial neural network. The weighted factors of the artificial neural network are determined by learning process using back propagation algorithm. After that the neon lamp will lit and the digital camera will capture the unique image of the banknotes. The unique image is compared with reference unique image that have been saved in computer by image processing. From the experiments it can be shown that banknotes recognized system can recognize Rp. 50.000 and Rp. 100.000 and unknown banknotes such as counterfeits and other nominal value of banknotes.
