Isi artikel
The question of cultural relevance in set:ond-language (English) reading programmes for minority language children is discussed, and the results of an exploratory study are reported, supporting the hypothesis that cultural relevance facilitates comprehension. At present, however, such materials are hard to find. The study points to the need for a co-ordinated effort, involving the educational authorities and minority community, particularly its story-tellers, to build up a supply of suitable materials for the second-language class.
