Isi artikelCanadian adoption statistics are presented for the years between 1981 and 1990. Data were provided by the adoption coordinators of all 10 provinces and two territories. Downward trends in the use of adoption as a means of family formation were found across the decade. By 1990, a majority of infant adoptions were facilitated by private practitioners and urgencies while older children were primarily adopted through public auspices. Findings are discussed within the context of pregnant women s decision making and the availability of adoptable children. Finally the need for better record keeping is considered.
