This paper deals with utterance interjections in West Flemish, a dialect of Dutch. It is argued that the distribution of utterance interjections such as da and he offers evidence for phrase structure and for the version of X-theory proposed in recent work by Stowell. The paper explores the distribution of utterance interjections with respect to extra posed relative clauses and various types of adverbial clauses. It is shown how such clauses are either Chomsky-adjoined to S (in the case of extraposed relatives and central adverbials) or to E (in the case of peripheral adverbials).
