Sociolinguists often claims that the declining of the use of many of the indigenous languages in Indonesia is supposed to be caused by the encroachment of the larger vernacular languages. Others blame that the young generation of the local language is reluctant to use his/her mother tongue due to its low prestige. One of the langauges that is now likely to be abandoned by its native speakers in the country is the Sumbawa Language spoken by some fifteen thousand people spread out in five distinctive areas in Lombok.
