Social or cultural values and norms which are actually "gender bias" are often considered as "taken for granted" or just normal for the situation. In fact those values and norms could limit the freedom of boys and girls. "Gender bias" norms and discrimination are usually more disadvantegeous for girls compared to boys. In this paper it is shown that those values and norms upon girls are in fact counterproductive. The case of girls in a marginal community in Jakarta showed that because of limitations and discriminations, they were pushed into a difficult and dangerous position especially related to sexuality and reproductive health. As a consequence they suffer more from reproductive health injuries and problems.
