Adlerian therapy is a Neo-Freudian approach in counseling field. The approach is interesting in terms of the way of intervention for the client. The characteristics of family constellation, family atmosphere, early collections and client's life-style make this approach easy to apply. Therapist who chose this approach may use his value system and beliefs to fit the nature of the counseling. The approach has many similarities as well as contrasts to RET approach. Both of them emphasize encouraging the client to assume responsibility of the direction of their lives. Adlerian approach emphasizes warm relationship with the client, RET does not. One of the limitations of Adler's approach to his client's assessment is that he lacks systematic process. Ethical dilemma is the issue that would need consideration. When working with the client, the therapist has to consider the matter of confidentiality and dual relationships. |
