Isi artikel
The association between a mother's marital status and perinatal outcome was examined among single births in Fin/arid in 1987 (n = 56,595 infants). Data were taken from national registers (the medical birth register, the death register, the education register). After adjusting for the mother's age and education, the geographical area, and the degree of urbanization, we found that perinatal deaths, low birth weight, and preterm infants were more common among single mothers than among married mothers. The results for cohabiting mothers were more similar to those of married mother them to those of single mothers. Cohabiting women. gave birth to somewhat more infants with low birth weight than did married women, out there was hardly any difference in the number of preterm infants or deaths. Parity and smoking diminished but did not abolish the differences.
