Isi artikelMicroprocessor or microcontroller based minimum system must have an input and output device. One of the frequently used input device is a switch. Switch required a pin in the microprocessor or microcontroler to handle it. The required numbers of pins in microprocessor or microcontroller are equal to the amount of switch. To decrease the number of pins to handle the switches then the switches connected as a matrix keypad so the required numbers of pins in microprocessor or microcontroller are equal to the amount of matrix keypad's rows and columns. This paper presents how to connect matrix keypad to the microprocessor or microcontroller using pulse period measurement method. If using this method, microprocessor or microcontroller can handle up to 256 x 256 matrix keypad (theoretically) to the single pin interrupt in the microprocessor or microcontroller. In this method, signal from the switch converted to the square wave signa; then measured by microprocessor or microcontroller.
