Isi artikel
My purpose in writing this annual review is not to describe everything that is important across the range of research articles published in 1996 nor even to do justice to the overall 'message' of those particular articles that I have mentioned. What is intended is a more selective account of aspects that seem to one person to be particularly interesting projects and of trends that seem to be emerging. As in previous years, cross-reference is made to abstracts in Language Teaching. Thus, Kasper and Schmidt (1996: 96-536) refers to the article published in 1996 and appearing as abstract number 536 in the 1996 series of the journal. To my mind 1996, though perhaps not a year of spectacular successes, was nonetheless one in which steady progress was made on several important fronts. Of the topics that seemed to achieve particular prominence when compared with previous years, it was pleasing to see an increase in research on second language (L2) vocabulary-learning and reading.
