Abstract
This workbook is meant to give some practical exercises to acquire basic skill of writing. It consists of three parts. Part one is for controlled composition, part two guided composition, and part three free composition.
In part one you are given some passages to rewrite so as to give you exercises in using punctuation marks, such as comma, full stop, semi colon, colon, question mark, capital letters, and so on. The more you practice rewriting the more you will get used to manipulating the technical elements of writing. You can also pay a close attention to the punctuation of any piece of writing by a scholar or a professional writer, because there you can find good examples of using punctuation in writing. Besides exercises in punctuation, you are also given some integrated exercises in grammar, calculating, and sentence combining.
Part two gives you some exercises in guided composition. You are supposed to write a composition based on your answers to the questions about the picture accompanying each exercise. You can develop your composition by asking yourself about anything about the picture that attacks your attention. Field trip is also an interesting activity that can give you an inspiration to write. You can do some note-taking first. Prepare some questions about some points you want to write. Map-reading can become a source of information that you can write as a good piece of writing; it gives you some practice of using appropriate prepositions.
Free composition exercises are given in part three. After you have done some exercises in controlled and guided compositions, you may begin to write free compositions. You are given some reading passages, and you are free to interpret. Write your each point of view in a paragraph, later you will see that you have made a long piece of composition after writing all points in your mind.
