Isi artikelUsing a community based sample of 870 adolescents in Lo' Angeles, we examine the influences of neighborhood and family contexts on the transition to first sex. We find that the risk sex is not solely due to neighborhood socioeconomic status and race, bit rather that is the social conditions that covary with these structural attributes that are important Teen living in single-parent or reconstituted families have higher risk. As do teens who report higher levels of parental overcontrol. When compared with White girls, Black and Hispanic boys exhibit higher risk and Hispanic girls exhibit lower risk of having sex.
