Indonesia Lawyer Club (hereforth ILC) is one of the famous TV programs in Indonesia. It is well known for its critical content discussing the current issues occurred in Indonesia. In addition, it clearly becomes more favorable since the host of this program presents important figures as keynote speakers from different backgrounds such as politicians, lawyers, academics etc. to reveal and criticize of the topic. In spite of its serious topics, this program attracts its audiences because the host of the program skillfully mediate the dispute among the participants, therefore the discussion run well and achieve its objectivity for getting clarity. Word play is one of the strategy that the host of the show perform in order to release the tension, and in some extent, sometimes it becomes humorous statements which can amuse the audiences and cool down the guests of the show. This paper will discuss the emergence of humorous statements produced by the participants in this show, including the host of the show. The function of the verbal humor will be securitized to find out the background of its emergence and also the effect of it.. This research will be conducted qualitatively. As the source of the data, some ILC programs will be downloaded from the internet (mostly from youtube). The data of this paper will be the verbal humor uttered by the participants of the talk show that will be transcribed by using standard conversation analysis (CA) conventions (Jefferson, 2004). To analyze the existence of the verbl humor in this talk show, the idea of the non bona fide of Grice’s maxims offered by Raskin (in Attardo, 1990) will be applied.
