This paper is mainly based on the theory by Searle. In this paper the objects of the study are the utterances of buyers and traders in Pasar Alai, Padang, West Sumatera. The data are collected through observational method.the purpose of the the paper to analyse the speech act form of the speech act during the trading. Directive forms highly used because it can state what the speakers need. Both of traders and buyers use the same form but have different functions. The result also show that the utterance forms used by buyers are: (1) directive—to request,to ask, to persuade, to order, to ensure, to scold, to prohibit, to refuse and to warn, (2)expressive—to complain, to symphatize, to thank and resigned, (3) commisive—to approve, and (4) representative—to report. Pasar alai trader’s speech act is categorized into 3 forms (1) directive—to ask, to refuse, to propose, to request and to order, (2) expressive—to complan, to symphaatize, to thank and to express pleasing feeling, and (3) representative—to report.
