The existing condition of local language in Gorontalo discovers the huge problem of Gorontalo language in terms of the degradation of number of speakers and the use of Gorontalo language. Results of survey which involved 493 respondents in one city and five regencies in Gorontalo province prove that 40% of respondents cannot speak Gorontalo language and most of them are under 30 years of age. In terms of the use of Gorontalo language, some respondents can only understand simple words of Gorontalo language particularly words that used in daily communication even some of them never use Gorontalo language on daily basis. They only use Gorontalo language when their parents speak to them whereas their parents seldom use Gorontalo language. Moreover, Gorontalo language is mostly only spoken by people who are 30 years of age or more. This situation is getting worse when some factors predominantly play as supporting causal factors such as there is no policy from government to solve this problem, the language attitude from Gorontalo people towards their local language–they feel that Gorontalo language is a symbol of stupidity, and the position of Malay language as the lingua franca in Gorontalo–not Gorontalo language. Regarding this, scholars in Gorontalo propose that the preservation of Gorontalo language is inevitable to prevent this phenomenon to be worse. One of effective ways to preserve Gorontalo language is providing an accessible program for Gorontalo people and youth in particular. Teaching digital language material at elementary schools as the current project is one of the solution where the scholars compose digital material of Gorontalo language and write digital books which can be accessed freely by Gorontalo people. This project is established to ensure that youth can increase their exposure of Gorontalo language through appropriate media which meets their needs as digital natives. The more exposure they have, the higher their ability in speaking Gorontalo language.
