Isi artikelAs we all know, legal translation is culture-dependent. Despite the distinctive magnetism of legal translation, mistranslation of a legal passage may pose severe legal consequences. Not to mention the numerous lexical gaps legal translators frequently encounter in their jobs. Therefore, legal translation has its own unique challenges. Although my freelance translation experience started at the end of 2007, I have been serving legal translation clients since 2012 that I can divide into domestic and overseas clients. The major difference of those two types of clients is their required tools. Domestic clients usually require conventionally completed translations. Meanwhile, overseas clients usually require the use of computer-aided translation (CAT) tools until online translation interface. In this TransCon 2016, I am going to share my professional experience as a freelance legal translator working with conventional and modern tools in domestic and international ambience. In addition, legal translators nowadays must be able to persistently find the best equivalents of considered difficult legal terms through independent researches on the Internet. Tips on conducting such online researches will also be briefly but usefully elaborated in this paper. I believe that the experience and hands-on tips I am going to share will be of use for those interested in making legal translation their specialization.
