Isi artikelChildren literature is an important medium introducing children to world knowledge, social concepts, and language. Hence, the study discusses the translation of address terms found in Seri kalimat thoyyibah, a series of bilingual stories for children introducing several Islamic noble expressions. It focuses on the problems of the address terms translation and the effects to the stories. From ten books, five of them have been chosen for this study which regularly show two main problems: repetitive used of address terms and pragmatic ambiguity. The repeated use of address terms creates problem at text level that results on the flow of the stories, while ambiguity creates problems at pragmatic level which reduces cultural markedness and creates different nuance to the used address terms in the target text. These problems commonly appear as the result of literal translation. Hopefully, this study contributes information on language choices and several cultural aspects need consideration for children literature translation.
