Isi artikelPoetry translation is a challenging type of translation due to the importance of keeping both forms and content of the original poems. This is done to evoke the same interpretation and response in the audience of the original as well as the translated poems. Beside the linguistic factors (semantic and syntactic structure), a poetry translator should also keep the aesthetic value (such as diction and sound) of the original poems in his/her translation. This study is an analysis of the translation of a collection of 20 poems by Hilda Winar in her anthology Panyalai (means Light). Analysis will be done by comparing the SL poems and their TL translation in terms of semantic aspects (the transfer of meaning) and linguistic aspect (syntactic structure, tenses usage, etc.). Moreover, there will be some discussions on the use of certain words which contribute to the aesthetic value of the translation. The purpose of this study is to discover how the translator deals with the linguistic as well as aesthetic factors in translating poetry. It is also expected that this study can improve the translation of poetry in this book in particular, and for other poetry in general.
