Isi artikelWith the rise of new communication technologies and the mediatization of organizations, today’s’ societies are undergoing a fundamental transformation towards globally networked societies (Castells, 2000). This paper contributes to overcome biases of instrumental and political-normative views and shed new light on the communicative dynamics around CSR and legitimacy in network societies. As alternative to the instrumental and the political-normative view on CSR , the communicative view emphazises the polyphonic and aspirational character of CSR . We extend this communicative view with a specific media theoretical angle to shed more light on the specific conditions (actors interpretations, institutional conditions etc.) that co-determine and foster how new media change dynamics around CSR and hereby constitute or disrupt legitimacy - control and uncontrol, consensus and dissens, and consistency and inconsistency. Based on this conceptualization we draw conclusions on future research.
