Isi artikel
Many organizations spend time, effort and resources in implementing complicated systems without implementing basics. In a typical industry, quality and productivity of several operations is largely affected by “skill” of the person. Many “why-why analysis” ends with root cause as “operator mistake” and “operator training” as corrective action. In this article we will see how to develop such skills. We will also look for other ways of reducing operator error. It is easy to say that operator should be trained to follow standard operating procedure (SOP). Developing such skill is difficult, but it is extremely important for the organization. Bigger question is how to bring the culture of following SOPs & how to bring habit of making improvements right from the very first day of employment? We will learn this in greater detail as we move ahead. Author would like to share his experiences of working with best TQM practicing companies & learning from eminent Japanese Quality experts about developing basic system needed for skill oriented operations. Methods explained here are with examples from manufacturing industry. However same concept is equally applicable to non manufacturing scenario.
