Elimination of wastage is one of the main criteria for “All inclusive growth”. In manufacturing industries, to eliminate the vital waste on rework and scrap, the root cause of the chronic issues are to be eliminated to make the process robust. In this paper how the use of Shainin Technique has resolved the chronic issue of high amps rejections in Starter motor, by modifying the design specification is explained. This case study emphasises the Shainin principle of “conformance to design specification does not guarantee good quality” and “Never hesitate to question the design specification in case of problem”.
