Isi artikelEUREPGAP, now known as GLOBALGAP, was launched in 1997 by European Retailers parties (Association) at Cologne (Germany). This Standard is controlled by FoodPlus. EUREPGAP is benchmarked with various local / national conditions ChinaGAP, ChileGAP etc. by respective National Technical Working Gr oups. There is one in India also. Due to this development, EUREPGAP was changed to GLOBALAP in 2007. The FICCI took the initiative of promoting EUREPGAP as early as 2003 for the first time on a wider scale amongst the Indian farming community through Norwegian Government-aided-projects. As per the opinion of some well known farmers producing table grapes, mangoes, abiding by the fundamental 14 control points required by the GLOBALGAP standards for fruits and vegetables, relating to betterment of exis ting agricultural practices, has helped them significantly. As a farmer speaks, this system has saved considerably their time and money by following better irrigation practic es saving water, choice of right propagation material, scientific way of crop protection, proper soil enrichment by judiciously adding fertilizers proper harvesting, storing, and packaging practice s by strictly adhering to hygiene at all level including personal level, almost following some of the HACCP principles & disposal of unnecessary wastes. These have led them to export and market their produce domestically with confidence, primarily on assuring their safety. The farmers say that they were effectively sensitized by FICCI’s awareness seminars hi ghlighting the importance providing them FICCI’s well trained consultants for implementation at all levels leading them to certification. There is also a relationship with ISO 9001 from the point of view of systems approach to quality relevant to group certification of farm ers & also with the some requirements of ISO14000 & HACCP. The culture of GLOBALGAP is spreading fast in the country and becoming sustainable practice.
