This study is a comparative analysis of the working capital management of two companies located in different countries, where the economy that prevailing in each has distinct characteristics and fundamentals. Aimed to identify the strategic differences on the management of working capital, as well as the impacts of the local economy generates in each company’s cash management. To realize this study, data were collected of the last ten years of the global and local economy, data from industry sector of animal protein, and the financial reports of each company, with the goal to crossing the information, analyze data and come up with the results. Data were standardized so that it was possible to make a comparative analysis without distorting the results. For the analysis of the management of working capital, we considered all the points raised by Matias (2009), such as cash flow, receivables management and credit billing, inventory management, treasury, funding sources, value management in capital working capital and international management. The results also sought to answer what were the impacts of differences in competitiveness of the Brazilian company. Global and local economy fluctuation caused direct impact on management of working capital of each company either to leverage existing opportunities, or to mitigate future risks. Aspects such as fluctuations in interest rates, expansion and reduction of the national credit, increased incomes, and exchange rate, were the economic aspects that most impacted cash management strategies of both organizations. This paper has great importance for the finance knowledge, once integrates the impacts of economy in the cash flow management, and how industries can positioning their short term financial strategies in the search for competitiveness.
