Isi artikelInternationalization is commonly defined as the degree of the firm’s dependence on foreign markets and resources (Sullivan, 1994). Many researchers have conducted studies on the internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Such studies are very important because of the economic role of SMEs which provides employment to millions of people around the world. R&D spending is an important predictor of internationalization. Using the upper echelon theory, this paper proposes the impacts of CEO characteristics such as international experience and network ties on the relationships between R&D spending and SME internationalization.
