Isi artikelThis article discusses how the process and goals of implementing task-based learning in teaching English speaking skill for specific purposes of marketing at Polytechnic of Akademi Pimpinan Perusahaan (APP) Jakarta. The contribution of this article is to provide the conceptual and the practical guide for the teacher who engages teaching technique, task-based learning specifically to be reached students’ speaking ability. Research methodology used a qualitative descriptive with an ethnography method as empirical and theoretical approaches. It aims to get a description and an analysis deeply of culture based on field note intensively. The final result of a comprehensive study of ethnography is a descriptive narrative accompanied by thorough interpretations interprets all aspects of life and describe the complexity of life. Research procedures using Spradley cycle starting as follows 1) the selection of a research project, 2) asking questions, 3) the collection of data, 4) making of an ethnographic recordings, 5) analysis of data, 6) writing an ethnography. The data were collected through participants using questionnaire, observation sheet and document study which is the way of collecting data through looking, listening and taking note about the indications accur in teaching learning process using task-based learning. The data analysis and interpretation indicates that 1) there are two objectives of teaching English speaking skill for specific purposes in marketing, first is the general objective, this subject is directed toward marketing student in promoting their developmental skills on English speaking skill and the second is the instructional objectives, after courses, marketing students will interact to demonstrate: a) an understanding in a focus on standardize marketing language, b) comprehency in communicating orally in marketing context, c) ability in applying English speaking ability for marketing activity and its situation related with it; and 2) the used of teaching technique is task-based learning.
