Isi artikelThis study is aimed at determining the translation strategies used in translating terminologies in notice from English to Bahasa Indonesian. It is intended to get the accuracy of translation (Newmark, 1988). This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis. The source of data were taken from notices in mall, shopping center, and factory outlet in Bandung. The analysis of data is based on Pedoman Umum Pembentukan Istilah ( Pusat Bahasa, 2007) and Senarai Bentuk Asing dan Padananannya dalam Bahasa Indonesia (2015). Based on the guidance the analysis is conducted by applying five strategies used in translating the terms. The analysis is done by seeking the standard equivalence in Indonesian great dictionary (KBBI) and Indonesian glossary. The result of the research reveals that (1) direct or literal translation (exit-- keluar), (2) direct translation by maintaining the concept of source language citiwalk- mal saba/mal pedestrian), (3) absorption translation with adjustments spelling and pronunciation (mall lobby- lobi mal), (4) Absorption of the term without adjustment spelling and pronunciation (lift-lift, elevator-elevator), and (5) direct and absorption translation (free wifi- wifi gratis/bebas).
