Isi artikelThe development of technology in assessing students is popular in schools nowadays. As the result, almost all schools in Bandung start using online test in assessing students and even preparing for computer based national exam. The typical test used is online multiple-choice test. Therefore, the study presents the report of students’ response toward the use of online multiple-choice test to assess students’ reading comprehension. The study also investigates the use of online multiple-choice test comparing to the use of short essay test with the same material. The study was conducted in one of private senior high school in Bandung as the pilot project digital school in Bandung which included 100 students as the population of the study. The data of the study were obtained from questionnaire and interviewing some students. The data were analyzed by summarizing all students’ responses and comparing the scores of students from both of tests. The result shows that the use of online multiple-choice test makes students easier in doing the test and decreasing the possibility of students to cheat and work corporately in doing the test although there are some problems faced by students in the implementation of online test. Moreover, in order to know the effectiveness of using online multiple-choice test in assessing students’ reading comprehension, the data gathered from the score of students from online multiple-choice test and from short essay test were compared by using simple statistical calculation, comparing the average scores from both of the tests. The result shows that the use of online multiple-choice test can’t assess students reading comprehension since students’ scores from both of the tests were different; although the materials given were same. Hence, the suggestion of the study is that the use of online test should be built up more. Moreover, in assessing students’ reading comprehension, the use of online multiple-choice should be mixed with the other kind of tests such as short essay test.
