Isi artikelLearning is not only aimed to get big score on test but also “it must focus on whether or not students can apply their learning to the appropriate situation” (Conrad, 1995). To overcome this goal teacher should provide meaningful lifelong learning, not only in teaching but also in assessing students’ achievement; some teachers used test and other teachers used reflective journal writing. This research investigated students’ perception of both kinds of assessment. This study employed qualitative descriptive method by taking questionnaire. The data found were calculated manually by calculating the percentages and mean scores of the student responses to infer the data findings. It was found that mean score of students’ perceptions of test was 3.2 and reflective journal writing was 4.2 which indicated that students had better perception of reflective journal writing. However, teachers can use reflective journal writing assessment which is considered as a reflection to be a characteristic of good teaching as well as an important part of effective teaching practices.
