Isi artikelThe lexicon kanai ‘get’ in Minangkabaunese can be combined with other verbs in the form of serial verb predicates. The lexicon kanai can be said as the lexical passivization in Minangkabunese. It can be also seen that the lexicon kanai in the passives with the serial verb constructions is etimologically derived from grammatical passivization di-kanai-i. This paper grammatically discusses the phenomena of verbal predicates in serial verb kanai + verb in Minangkabaunese. There are three questions answered as the basis of analysis and discussion presented in this paper, namely: (i) what are the grammatical properties of clause constructions with the predicate serial verb kanai + verb in Minangkabaunese?; (ii) is the lexicon kanai in such passive construction etimologically derived from morphological passivization di-kanai-i in Minangkabunese?; and (iii) is it reasonable to claim that the constructions are the linguistic processes from grammatical to lexical passivization? The data analyzed in this paper were the preliminary ones of a library and field research conducted in 2016.
