Isi artikel
The current status of civil registration and vital statistics (CVRS) systems in Asia and the Pacific is described in this paper, and the case is made for investing in CVRS. In addition, there is a summary of the development of the Regional Strategic Plan for the Improvement of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics in Asia and the Pasific. The paper highlights the fact that, while manay countries in the ESCAP region do not have well-functioning CRVS systems, a new momentum for improving CRVS is building. This impetus is being driven bt=y the growing demands for accountability and results and for improved equity and right-based approaches to development challenges, and by the immense potential for innovation and new technologies to accelerate progress in CRVS improvement. The momentum is further reinforced by the Regional Strategic Plan, which has been endorsed by countries in the ESCAP region to stimulate and support the actions required to strengthen CRVS.
