Globalization and internationalization of higher education institutions (HEls) in the Philippines to promote global competitiveness of HE! graduates led to the writing of this paper on reading, particularly on reading comprehension of Chinese students who come to the Philippines to obtain a college degree. Based on the general statistics posted by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Chinese students, more than any other foreigners within Metro Manila occupy an indisputable population. The choice of conducting this study sprang from the belief that of all foreign nationals in the Philippines, no other group has had a more varied and productive life in the country than the Chinese. The study made use of a researcher-made questionnaire which contains 11 passages. It covered vocabulary, literal comprehension, inferential comprehension, and analysis. Findings of the study revealed that Chinese students scored low in vocabulary, inferential and analysis items. It was also found that the school is a significant variable in vocabulary, literal comprehension, and analysis. And, the mean scores of the students from China and Taiwan were found significant in vocabulary.
