Since implementing the decentralization mechanism back in 2001, Indonesia's regional provinces/districts/cities have been mushroomed. Having rapid changes in its administrative system has brought many implications on how the urban development policy shapes the change of the livelihood. Some of the scholars argue that decentralization process would bring negative aspects. First, the decentralization has brought local government as rent-seeking actors. The second aspect is related to weak government institutions. Third, the decentralization policy has been seen as uneven in character. Fourth, decentralization has null effects on urban development. On the other spectrum there are scholars who perceive decentralization would bring more positive values. First, decentralization has made possible for the best individual would gain the support from the people. Second, the devolving of minimum wage to the local government. Third, decentralization have been implicated to a closer decision-making. The fourth is concerning the participatory planning. Moreover, there are several aspects on the notion of decentralization impact on urban development for future consideration. First, local autonomy and good governance will be the key to successful decentralization. Second, new provinces and district/city should be formed without having serious conflict that could jeopardize the country's unity. Lastly, the government has revised the law and subsequently improved the coordination mechanism between the vertical level and horizontal level of government.
