Isi artikelThe aging of the population is rapidly changing the “landscape” of health care practice. This is particularly seen with the growth in numbers of the “oldest old,” those older than 85 years. Surgeons encounter the “oldest old” on at least a monthly basis in their clinical practice. Conditions like atherosclerosis, cancer, degenerative joint disease, cataracts, and prostatism, common to the geriatric population, increase with increasing age.
