English and Indonesian Noun Phrases differ in the position of head words and their modifiers. English Noun Phrases are usually right-headed, while Indonesian Noun Phrases are usually left-headed. This article discusses such differences. Using a corpus of 5 short news (+ 1000 words) in both languages as the data for this study, the researcher will use a concordance program to do the followings: 1) identify the head word and the pattern of the Noun Phrases and 2) analyze the grammatical structure of modifiers of each NP. The study is done to find out the grammatical complexities of Noun Phrases in English and Indonesian and to see whether there is a change of modifier pattern in Indonesian and English noun phrases.
