Isi artikelGoogle translate is a computerized system which can let people translate fast in a very simple way. Translation is a language converting process. Since English seems to be a targeted language for most Indonesian, ability of translating Indonesian to English or vice versa is required. Translating involves linguistics and psychological factors. Due to lack of linguistics competence and laziness many Indonesian students use Google translate as their way out in translation. This article deals with the impact of analyzing linguistic errors on text translated using Google Translate on students’ Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) and students’ linguistics awareness. In this study 26 students (aged 17-21) who took English for Specific Purpose program were asked to translate a text into English in two ways, using Google translate and manually. After having discussion about linguistics errors made by Google translate and compared the translation with the manual one, they were asked to fill out a questionnaire. Descriptive qualitative analysis was used to analyze the questionnaire. The result reveals that (1) students feel it is useless to use Google translate to translate texts because the texts become meaningless (2) students admit that translating manually leads their PB4L although it is time and energy consuming (3) students find out numbers of linguistics errors made by Google translate. Thus it can be concluded that showing the possible errors made by Google translate is more effective than merely explaining about the downsides of using Google translate and analyzing wrong text promotes students’ linguistic awareness.
