Isi artikelThis paper reports a study of teachers’ use of interactionstrategies in English Language Teaching (ELT) in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Schools (Islamic Lower Secondary Schools). The study involved 6 teachers of Madrasah tsanawiyahschools in Malang, East Java. Classroom observation was selected as a method in this study. Self Evaluation Teacher Talk (SETT) instrument that characterises teacherstudent interaction, developed by Walsh (2006), was adopted as the observation protocol. Nine classes taught by 6 teachers were observed. The findings reveal that some interaction strategies that are more frequently used than the others. Unfortunately, these strategies limit the students’ opportunities to produce the target language.
