Isi artikelThe purpose of this research is formulated in research question, i.e. what is the impact of translation strategy employed to Grice’s maxims? And the main objective of this research is to answer the research question which is to present the impact of implementation of translation strategy to Grice’s maxims. Hence, one benefit of this research findings is to motivate the translator into becoming more critical, careful and accurate in employing the translation strategy. Thus, it would produce a high quality translation, minimize the translation error, ambiguity, and anticipate in advance multiinterpretation of text meaning. The advantage of this research discovery is also for development of translation criticism as part of translation study in order to conduct more comprehensive researchworks in this domain. The library research method is used in this research. And the comparative model between source text and target text is used as data analysis technique. These method and model employ commonly in translation criticism. It is determined that the pragmatic analysis employing Grice’s maxims approach in text as written language which covers text, context, discourse, nonlinguistics, and implicature. The research data is composed of similar contents of two “Joint Statement” texts both in Indonesian and English language. The researcher has observed the translation strategy employing inconformity mainly with Grice’s maxim of quality and at the end affected to the quality of translation. This research shows these trend of Grice’s maxim of quality that is violated in this “Joint Statement.” Acquiring other finding, there is inconsistency in usage of preposition of in the English Text (Target Text). It is discovered that a crucial terminology used in Indonesian text (Source Text) is inaccurate. Moreover, the words that are chosen incorrectly impacted to inconformity of Grice’s maxim of quality. In conclusion, the pragmatic analysis of Grice’s maxims can be implemented in written text which implicates the development of translation study. As for the translation strategy application implicates to the translation quality in translation practices. It is hoped that this findings and implications would be considered by practitioners and academicians to develop further translation research in comprehensive way to achieve higher translation quality. The findings result suggest the need for further research in analyzing non-linguistics, discourse and so forth related to translation text analysis. Nevertheless, it is necessary to conduct text proofreading at least twice to reach high quality translation products.
