Personal history influences the development of ideas. Jack wiseman;s distinctive and original academic contributions were in the fields of public finance / public sector studies, industry, public choice and austrian economics. These development centred on his native lancashire, LSE and york. Jack was born in december 1919 in the lancashire district of brierfield near burnley and was the youngest of six surviving children with four sisters, all living in a "two - up and two - down house". His father was a foreman at the coalyard of the local cooperative society and his mother started work in the mill at the age of eleven.
