The biggest issue among the recent high education topics is the enhancement of global competition between schools and following improvement of university education quality. To face the issue, direction of nationally policy to improve higher education quality is being clear with “Educational Capacity Enhancement Project” and “Advancement of College Education” in Korea. Furthermore, international interest and application of higher education quality assurance and evaluation is also spreading, for instance, UNESCO’s GIQAC (Global Initiative for Quality Assurance Capacity) and OECD’s AHELO (Assessment of Higher Education Learning Outcomes) evaluation. In these situation, faculty’s competency is regarded the critical factor for higher education success. This study examine the faculty's job competencies and the difference in the order of priority of those job competencies between groups (faculty major: humanities & social science, natural science & engineering, business management & economics, medical science & pharmacy, art & sports). To do this, firstly, the roles and job competencies of faculty are thoroughly synthesized and analyzed from the literature review. For this purpose, this study used literature review, nominal group technique, survey, Borich priority formula. Firstly, the roles and job competencies of faculty are thoroughly synthesized and analyzed from the literature review. In addition, Nominal group technique(NGT) was held in order to identify the job competency list of faculty. The result of NGT made up for the final job competency list for conducting need analysis with surveying. Through the literature review and nominal group technique, 15 job competencies were found for the faculty and a questionnaire was developed. The survey is performed on 196 faculties of Korea during February, 2013. The participants confirmed the statistically significant difference between current level and future needed level for those all 15 job competencies. The results were as follows: First, there was statistically significant difference in perceptions of current level and future needed level of 15 job competencies. 'understanding of college organization', 'ability to counsel students', 'ability to have good personal relationships', ‘ ability to evaluate student achievement’, ‘ability to have academic and career counseling’, were ranked as the top priority of competency. Second, differences were confirmed among faculty majors in perceiving the priority of job competencies. These means that generally, current faculties have difficulties to demonstrate some competencies. To overcome these, meaningful opportunities for training and educational program development need to be provided.
